A Wave of Fire

It’s funny how it was January when you came in,
A wave of fire, and I couldn’t stand the heat.
Took my whole world and turned it upside down,
Burnin’ everything in your path, and the tracks behind your feet.
You couldn’t stick around to clean up this big ol’ mess you made, now could you?
You left just as quickly as you came.
Well maybe it’s best you’ve left this town,
So I can move on, and get on my way, but I’d sure love to make you pay.
‘Cause you’re like a fire, a path of flames knockin’ at my door
when I’m tired, ain’t nothing I can do anymore, so
I’ll sit down and drink my whiskey, nothing else to do.
And no doubt I’ll think about you, but I won’t let it make me blue, ‘cause you’re
Miles and miles away from here, and you ain’t coming back,
So I can finally get over you, and that’s all I ask.
Ain’t you supposed to be the kind to keep me warm
In the wintertime, when the sun don’t shine?
But you set flame to everything, and then disappeared
Into that smoky haze that you left behind.
‘Cause you’re like a fire, and if I threw my drink on you you’d burn
Higher, so this is what I’m gonna do
I’m gonna sit down and drink my whiskey, nothing else to do.
And no doubt I’ll think about you, but I won’t let it make me blue, ‘cause you’re
Miles and miles away from here, and you ain’t coming back,
So I can finally get over you, and that’s all I ask.
There are plenty of bad words I would like to yell at you.
I’d raise my glass and tell you off but what good would that really do?
Fightin’ fire with fire would sure be fun, but the only way I’ll win
Is if I don’t let you bother me no more, so bartender, go and grab that bottle of gin, ‘cause I’m gonna
Sit here and sip my drink, until I’m through,
And I just might think about you, but it sure as hell won’t make me blue, ‘cause you’re
Miles and miles away from here, and you ain’t coming back,
So you can go on and get out of my head, and that’s all I ask.
