Mr. Clockman
Sunlight in the city,
Shining its glitter on him and me.
Mr. Clockman tells me the time
He’s got the kind of watch that tells you what the moon’ll look like tonight.
He takes a pretty girl out on the train
They go out for ice cream, talk sophisticated things
She knows everything, sports to politics
But if I had to hold all of that in my head, I’d be sick
So give me one chance, I won’t let you down
Give me one chance, I’ll run and catch you ‘fore you hit the ground
Give me one chance, and never wonder if I’m at your side
Give me one chance, and I’ll be with you ‘til the clocks run out of time
‘Cause I’ll be the pocket watch next to his belt
Right by his side to make sure he’s well
There I’d be for everyone to see
And they’d catch their breath, and he’d just smile at me
And if he leaves me behind, that’s alright
‘Cause then I’ll be the clock on the wall at school to tell him the time
Throughout class he looks to me for help
And I’ll set him free, with the bell
So give me one chance, I won’t let you down,
Give me one chance, and I’ll run and catch you ‘fore you hit the ground
Give me one chance, and never wonder if I’m at your side
Give me one chance
‘Cause people say that we’d look good together,
We’d be like a light in bad weather
‘cause I’m a compliment to his style,
But I’m a classic, I’ll last him a while.
So give me one chance, I won’t let you down,
Give me one chance.
