Summer of ’89
Tough callused hands, fold around mine and
Pull me towards you, and my hearts starts to fly.
Your thoughtful, sunburned face, after work each day
Sweeps all other thoughts, in my mind away.
‘Cause boy I’m not going nowhere.
I’m staying by your side, I swear.
I just can’t believe you’re mine
And that I’ve had you since that summer of ‘89.
It was when we were younger, I was new in town,
Running from the city life, and that’s when I found
A pair of eyes so deep and blue,
Like the sea, and the tides brought me to you.
I just can’t believe that you’re mine
And that I’ve had you since that summer of ‘89.
Those strong sturdy shoulders, that work so many hours
To make us a living, and a house, that’s ours.
And every Sunday at church, our heads bowed in prayer,
I thank the Lord for sending you, and ending my despair .
‘Cause I think I love you more than I even know.
I’ll follow you, boy, wherever you go.
I just can’t believe that you’re mine
And that I’ve had you since that summer,
Thank the Lord, for that summer,
That summer of ’89, that summer of ‘89.
