Three Photographs

It’s black and white, on a Sunday afternoon,
And you’re leaning back in a lawn chair.
You didn’t know that they were taking a picture, but your smile lights up the whole frame.
Yeah you smile at me like I was even there.
Time wasn’t on our side,
Time wasn’t on our side.
But they can take all the time they want away,
‘Cause I know, that I’ll see you one day.
Sitting on a beach, it’s a Friday night.
You’re in his letterman jacket, and he’s looking up at you.
And you didn’t know it then, but right then and there, you were the only thing he could see,
Yeah and let me tell ya, I still see it in his eyes today.
Time wasn’t on our side,
Time wasn’t on our side.
But they can take all the time they want away,
‘Cause I know, that I’ll see you one day.
It’s full color now, out on the water,
On a big white boat, holding your granddaughter.
She’s got your clothes in her closet, your jewelry on her wrist.
I’d be lying if I said those were things I wouldn’t miss.
Time wasn’t on our side.
Time just wasn’t right.
Time wasn’t on our side.
Time wasn’t on our side.
But they can take all the time they want away,
‘Cause I know, I’ll see you one day.
Yes I know, I’ll see you one day.
I’ll see you someday.
